Founded in 1979/1980 by the S.S. Marichettiar Trust, a family-driven initiative with a social mission to support the textile industry. The Trust, established by the SSM family with Shri S.S. Marichettiar as Chairman, has played a pivotal role in promoting education, industry, and community welfare in the Komarapalayam region.

Beyond establishing S.S.M. Polytechnic College, the Trust has contributed significantly to society — funding higher studies, supporting entrepreneurship, and even building a local hospital to serve the community. The institution under the Trust offers diploma programs in various textile-related specializations, fostering innovation, placement opportunities, and environmental awareness among its students.
